Search is a core function of our platform. In this blog post, we explain how to use the new search function correctly and what you need to pay attention to. We will focus in particular on the search field, the filters and the view of the search results. Would you like to take an interactive tour of the search function? Then click here and we'll guide you through the most important new features.
How to find your way to the search
If you want to make full use of the search, log in to stiftungschweiz.ch. Then either click on "Research" in the menu on the left or click on the magnifying glass at the top of the search field. If you wish, you can also enter a search term directly in the search field and press "Enter" - this will also take you to the search and results matching the search term will be suggested immediately.
Search field
At the top you will see the search field. You can enter your search term here. The search engine immediately offers you suggestions that match your text entry and corrects spelling mistakes. You do not have to confirm your search with "Enter", but suitable organizations will be suggested to you from the first letter. The number of search results found is displayed below the search field.
Filter
On the left-hand side you will find all filters at a glance. Each filter has a tooltip with information about the respective filter. Simply hover over the Info-i icon to read a tooltip.
Click to select one or more filters. You can combine the filters with an entered search term or just search using the filter selection. Many of the filters are collapsed by default. They can be expanded with a click. If a filter group has several filters, you can show them by clicking on "More filters".
You can recognize your selected filters not only by the tick in front of the respective filter on the left, but they are also all displayed with a red border above the first search result. You can click on them individually or click on "Reset filter" to remove them all.
Please note: If you select several filter groups, these are linked with an AND function (i.e. the number of search results decreases with each additional filter group, as all filter groups must apply to the search result). However, if you select different filters within a filter group, these are linked with an OR function (i.e. the search results only have to apply to at least one filter).
Restrictions for Free users: Only a limited number of filters can be used with the Free access. From the Starter level upwards, you have access to all filters: target group, impact area, founding date, address, legal form, SDGs, certification and membership. If you would like to find out more about the individual filters, take a look at our article "The search filters explained".
View of the search results
By default, the search results are sorted by relevance and displayed in the list view. If you want to change the sorting mode, click on the sorting (on the left above the search results) and select the desired sorting. If you would prefer to use the map view instead of the list view, click on the globe on the right above the search results. You have various options for sorting: "Relevance" sorts the results according to whether they match your search term or your filter selection. "Newly added" shows newly added results first, e.g. newly established foundations. "Recently updated" sorts the entries according to the date on which they were updated. The alphabetical sorting is based on the organization title.
The following information is always displayed by default in the list entry for a search result: Name and location of the organization, the legal form as well as the main topic areas in small tiles and the purpose/the most important in brief about the organization. Depending on the length of the text, it is cut off. To read it in full, click on the arrow at the bottom right of the corresponding search result.
At the top right next to the main topic areas in small tiles you will find a list icon. By clicking on it, you can add the organization directly to a standard list without having to open the organization portrait.
To display more search results, click on "Load more" below the results. There you will also find automatically generated related search terms that you can use to expand your search.
Restrictions for Free users: Only a limited number of search results can be viewed in the Free level. From the Starter level upwards, you have access to all search results.
